The Center for Global Engagement has the mission to enhance the ability of the university to provide international education and experiential learning in the global community to its students. ISU's mission is to prepare its students to be productive citizens for Indiana and the world, and its 2011 strategic plan, The Pathway to Success, calls for 25% of the graduating seniors to have a significant international experience while at ISU. The initiatives in this proposal will create the capacity and provide the resources to enable this internationalization of our students and campus. In addition, the Center for Global Engagement will also contribute to making the Wabash Valley a more desirable location for international business.
To achieve these goals, the center will promote and develop curricular, programmatic, and collaborative activities that draw on faculty and staff from across the university and from ISU's international partners, as well as partners from the local community. These activities will draw heavily on ISU's strategic emphases of experiential learning and community engagement, and will include faculty-led short-term international experiences for students as well as conferences, workshops, and symposia that engage both local and international communities. Regular assessment of these activities and annual reporting will facilitate the evaluation of these initiatives. The long-term sustainability of these initiatives will be pursued through aggressive grant writing to foundations and government agencies as well as through collaboration with the ISU Foundation to develop a fundraising campaign among ISU's international alumni and other friends of ISU.
