Introduction to 2-D Art: Drawing and Painting

Ages: Adults, 16 years of age and up
Dates & Time: January 28 – April 8
2:00 – 4:30 p.m. (10 Saturdays)
No classes on March 18 (ISU Spring Break)

All artists, whether they are beginners or advanced, benefit from art making in the classroom environment. Consistent practice and the support of peers and instructor assist in an individual’s progress in becoming a stronger artist. In this semester-long studio class, participants will develop an understanding of value and spatial relationships as drawing and painting skills are developed. Students will be introduced to various techniques using dry and wet media. Through class interaction and self-motivation, participants will gain skills and confidence in drawing and painting techniques. All materials are supplied, but participants may bring their own drawing or painting supplies.


Intermediate 2-D Art

Ages: Adults, 16 years of age and up
Dates & Time: January 28 – April 8

Participants must complete “Introduction to 2-D Art” or obtain permission from instructor before enrolling in this class. Artists with a basic understanding of color, value, and 2-D art materials will successfully navigate this intermediate, semester-long class. This 2-D studio class begins with a review of basic drawing and painting terms and techniques and will evolve into a supported environment where students create three pieces of unique 2-D art using drawing, painting, or mixed media. All materials are supplied, but participants may bring their own drawing or painting supplies.
